Mother Hearth
~ Fourth Trimester Education & Postpartum Care ~
“The most difficult part of birth is the first year afterwards. It is the year of travail ~ when the soul of a woman must birth the mother inside her.”
~ Joy Kusek (Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator)Across many cultures, the weeks after birth have long been treated as a protected time for the mother ~ a season of warmth, rest, nourishing food, emotional care and quiet bonding. At Mother Hearth, we bring this wisdom into the modern home, supporting mothers to feel held through the fourth trimester.
Motherhood begins with holding the baby. Postpartum care begins with holding the mother.
“Birth is not only about making babies. Birth is about making mothers ~ strong competent, capable mothers who trust themselves and know their inner strength”
~ Barbara Katz Rothman (Professor of Sociology & Author)“Maternal health is foundational to humanity’s health”
~ Rachelle Garcia Seliga (Innate Postpartum Care)The postpartum season can bring many questions. Here are some common questions and answers to help you feel more informed, supported and prepared as you move toward life after birth. Further questions are always welcome.
-
The fourth trimester is the first 12 weeks after birth, a period of profound emotional, physical, hormonal and spiritual transformation. It is a time of recovery, adjustment, deep bonding and learning, as both mother and baby adapt to life after birth.
Across many traditional cultures, this season has long been recognised as a sacred time that calls for rest, warmth, nourishment and support. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the weeks following birth are considered one of three "Golden Opportunities" in a woman's life. It is believed that by prioritising deep rest, healing and nourishment during this time, a mother can strengthen her long-term wellbeing and lay a healthier foundation for the years ahead.
At Mother Hearth, we believe that caring for the mother is just as important as caring for the baby. When a mother feels supported, the whole family benefits.

Ideally, postpartum preparation begins during pregnancy, before baby arrives. This gives you time to think about rest, food, support, visitors, recovery and what you may need in the early weeks. If you choose to work with a practitioner, it also gives you time to find a person who is the right fit for your family.
